Facts...

The Cooksville Crusaders are a hockey team consisting of players who are intellectually disabled, and who love the game of hockey.

This team started with only 5 players in September of 1994. It has steadily grown to its present-day enrolment of 30.

The league gives players the opportunity to participate in the game of hockey, while teaching good sportsmanship, skating, hockey skills, and what it is to be an integral part of a team.

Not only is the sport of hockey Canada’s national pastime, it is an incredibly fun way to improve gross and fine motor development.

We are a non-profit organization and, therefore, operate and rely completely on fundraising, donations and fees.

Our coaches are volunteers, friends and/or parents of the players.

Philosophy...

    The Cooksville Crusaders team strives:
  • To provide persons with an intellectual disability the opportunity to play and be a part of a hockey team, regardless of their skating ability;
  • To give a sense of community involvement to persons who have, in the past, only been able to watch from the sidelines. There are NOW 22 organizations of such teams;
  • To give athletes the opportunity to form the kind of relationships that only team mates can understand;
  • To then take these relationships and expose them to aspects of sportsmanship and camaraderie that would not otherwise be possible.
    All the while...

  • To have fun playing the great sport of hockey !!!
